Instant Pot Apple Pear Butter

This year we were blessed with an abundance of apple pear (aka Asian pear or sand pear). This fruit is a pear that has a taste that is like pears but crispy like an apple. Since we had so many pears, I decided to make some apple pear butter to savor the taste through out the winter. Apple butter is like apple sauce but cooked for much longer to evaporate the water. Apple butter cooked on the stove top takes hours to make but using an instant pot, it can reduce the time by half.

Clean, cut and place apple pears into your instant pot. Depending on how large it is, you can fill it to the maximum. I used a 8 quart instant pot and used about 3 lbs of apple pears.

To the cut apple pears, add 1/2 cup of water, 1 cup white sugar or maple syrup, 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice and a dash or two of cinnamon.

Set the instant pot to cook the apple pears for about 40-50 minutes on low pressure. Let the apple pears cook. Leave the instant pot to cool on its own or just release the pressure.

After cooking, use an immersion blender and blend until smooth.

Cook the apple pear sauce on the slow cooker setting for about 3-4 hours or until you get the consistency that is spreadable. Remember to give the sauce a stir once in a while.

To store the apple pear butter, you can put them in jars and keep in the fridge. They should last a couple of months because of the high concentration of sugar. If you want a more shelf stable apple pear butter, can the sauce using the proper canning methods.

Enjoy the apple pear butter on toast or even on a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
