Flavored Syrups

Chilly season is coming and that means we are all in need of some warm drinks. I have been testing a couple of syrups to flavor coffee and have enjoyed them so far. I will definitely be trying some more. These syrups can be used for your coffee, teas, cakes, pancake or anything you need to sweeten up.

Fig Leaf Syrup

This summer, I stumbled across other uses of figs and one of them was to make a fig leaf syrup. The flavor is a bit like vanilla and coconut. To make this syrup, you will need about 4 fig leaves. Rinse and clean the leaves and place in a 350 degree oven to toast. Once the leaves are toasted.

In a sauce pan use 2 cup of water and 2 cup of sugar. Bring to a boil and add the fig leaves. Turn off heat and allow the leaves to infuse until the syrup is cooled. This will last about 2-4 weeks. I stored mine with the leaves to allow the flavors to intensify.

Spiced Apple Syrup

If you like Pumpkin spiced coffee, you will like this recipe. It a bit tart but has a nice spiced flavor. This recipe was created by Morgan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75KTg-Osn8c. She has amazing recipes.

For this recipe you will need apple cider, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom pods and brown sugar.

Bring everything to a boil in a sauce pan and simmer for about 5-7 minutes. Allow to cool and remove the spices.

I found this syrup tangy and sweet and just the right amount of spice. It was perfect in my latte. Enjoy
