Korean Marinated Eggs

Move over deviled eggs. Here comes soy marinated eggs. This Korean version is sweet, salty and garlicky and would be great on top of rice. I brought these eggs as a side appetizer because they are great for snacking. These are simple to make (and are made the day before)

The ingredients are simple, soya sauce, honey, sesame seeds, garlic and green onion.

To start, make some jammy (soft cooked eggs). To do this, boil some water in a pot. When the water is just about to boil, gently place eggs in the water and start a timer for 7 1/2 minutes. This is my perfect timing. If you like it less runny boil for about 8 minutes.

While the eggs are boiling, mix together water, honey, soya sauce, garlic and green onion. If you like it spicy, add chili peppers.

Once the eggs are done, place eggs in some ice water to help to peel the eggs.

Place peeled eggs in the soy mixture and let the eggs marinade overnight.

The eggs are super flavorful and since I used low sodium soy, it wasn’t too salty. Enjoy.

Korean Soy Marinated Eggs

Recipe from https://whisperofyum.com/post/korean-marinated-eggs-mayak-eggs/

  • 12 eggs
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 6 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • green onion – 6 stalks
  • 8 cloves of garlic
  • 8 tsp sesame seeds
  • chili peppers (optional)

Boil some water in large pot. When the water is about to boil, gently place the eggs in the water using a slotted spoon. Set a timer for 7 1/2 minutes. I find this the perfect time, but you can adjust to your liking. The whites will be set and the yolk will be runny.

While the eggs are boiling, prep the marinade. Chop the green onion and crush the garlic. Using 1/3 cup hot water, melt the honey. In a container, mix together the water, honey, garlic, green onion, sesame seeds and soy sauce together.

When the eggs are done, place them in some ice water. This will help you peel them nicely. Place the peeled eggs in the marinade. Refrigerate overnight.

Eat as a side dish or on top of rice. Enjoy.
