Nasturtium Chips

This year I wanted to plant some nasturtiums as a pollinator attracting plant but also as something edible in the garden. All parts of this flower is edible and has a nice peppery taste like arugula . I accidentally planted one too many plants this year so we have an over abundance of these flowers. They are beautiful as they come in many different colors and some varieties climb.

As I looked for recipes that I could make with nasturtiums, I came across these nasturtium chips.

Pick and wash some leaves. Make sure they are free of aphids. Remove the stems as they take longer to dry.

Spray the leaves with some oil and sprinkle some salt over them. You can add seasoning too if you want.

I do have a dehydrator but I wanted to try making these in my oven. We have a dehydrator setting on our oven, but you can use the lowest temperature setting on yours (275 Degrees).

Bake until the chips get nice and crispy. Flip half way through. Mine took about 30 minutes.

These chips were not very peppery and were very light. They didn’t have much of a flavor just crispiness. My son really liked them. If you have nasturtiums, I hope you give them a try.

Nasturium Chips

  • nasturtium leaves-washed and dried
  • oil spray
  • salt
  • seasoning of your choice

Wash and dry your nasturtium leaves. Make sure you remove the stems as they take longer to dry.

Preheat your oven to the lowest temperature that you can, aim for 275 Degrees or use your dehydrator or warm setting if you have that option. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lay out the leaves in a single layer.

Spray the leaves with some oil and sprinkle with salt. Flip over and repeat. You can add seasoning if you wish.

Bake for about 10-15 minutes and then flip. Continue to bake for another 10-15 minutes. The chips are done when they are no longer soggy.

Enjoy.
