Every year on Pi Day (March 14) I make some kind of pie. Fruit pie, meat pie, pizza pie, you name it. This year I made this simple treat, just enough for a nice dessert. It is really easy to make and also fun to decorate. You will need store bought pie shells (or make your own, I am just lazy) and one apple of your choice.
Now you can decorate your pie in the traditional basket weaving method but I decided to do something different. I lay strips into a spiral shape around the apple. I wish I took more pictures but I hope you get the idea.
Finally cut the edges using your circle mold/cutter. You can do an egg wash or add more sugar at this point. I decided to leave mine plain.
Overall this was a tasty dessert. It could have used a little more sugar, or some jam, or some apple sauce. It would pair well with some vanilla ice cream. I would definitely try this again and change the fruit.
