Korean Bulgogi

Easy meals get boring when you do the same things over and over again. I usually tend to fall in the same routine when I don’t have a lot of time to cook. This makes food taste bland and boring. I decided to spice things up and make some bulbogi, a Korean marinated beef dish. Instead of slices of beef, I used ground beef instead.

Start the dish by heating up a tablespoon of sesame oil in a frying pan on med-high heat. Saute 3 tablespoons of minced garlic for about 2-3 minutes or until the garlic gets nice and aromatic. Make sure you don’t let the garlic burn or over cook. While the garlic is cooking, begin preparing the sauce, add 1/4 cup soy sauce and 1/4 cup brown sugar to a mixing bowl. Stir until the sugar has dissolved. Hint! if you are making a smaller portion of this dish, you can use a one to one ratio of soy sauce to brown sugar. Remember to use less garlic as well. 20160312_185332

To the soy sauce and brown sugar mixture, add the chili peppers and ginger.  Set the sauce aside while you brown the ground beef. When the garlic is ready, add the ground beef and cook until there it is no longer pink. Add the sauce to the pan, turn down the heat and let it simmer for 3-4 minutes allowing the meat to absorb the sauce. Finally season your dish with some salt and pepper to taste. AND your meal is pretty much complete. Such a simple, easy and delicious meal!20160312_185732

To assemble the dish, portion out some rice into a plate or preferably a bowl. Add the ground to the top of the rice and top with a handful of fresh green onion. You will definitely add this to your easy meal plan. A little bit of sweet and a little bit savoury. Enjoy!
